Fallen By Lauren Kate Review

Fallen (Fallen, #1)Fallen by Lauren Kate
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was dark & light, riveting, intense, and so full of mystery. I couldn't put it down even if I wanted to. I was trying my hardest to piece it all together. Still I will continue to piece it together because I for one can't turn away from this series. I have to read them all and find out what happens with ALL of these characters. Addriane is probably my favorite. She is soo out there & different I just love any scene with her. Movie is supposed to hit theaters Fall 2015 so I'm looking forward to this! I don't like to spoil so I will not post any but if I had to combine any past reads to compare to this one I would say that this has a dash of The Mortal Instruments & a sprinkle of Mara Dyer. Honestly thats the best I can do & I hope that sparks your reading bug! Happy Reading ya'll!!

xoxo,
Sherley

Healthy Attitude & Look Books!

"A healthy attitude is contagious but don't wait to catch it from others. Be a carrier." - Tom Stoppard

That quote above seems to pretty much summarize where my mind has been the last month or so. I know i tend to take a lot of breaks in between my posts but to be honest my intentions for this Blog are not to post on a daily or weekly basis. It was more of a leisure time posting. So I'm sorry if they are not as frequent as you would like but I can guarantee that they will be monthly! :) so heyyyy thats good news right.

So updates on life... My last blog post was actually pretty popular and y'all really enjoyed it. I think thats really funny and I am glad that little questionnaires like that are still entertaining. I love to read them from other people. To me its like going to the book store and just getting an idea of the book by just looking at the cover and reading the back of it. Its enough info about it to entice you into reading it but without giving too much away.

Back in May I did a little modeling & makeup for a photo shoot for Swallows Heart. If you don't know what Swallows Heart is its basically minimalistic handmade jewelry pieces and its now my obsession! So we did a Look Book for her summer pieces and it was ton of fun. The scenery was beautiful and as scared as Meghan & I were about modeling our friend Sophia from Sophia Jordan Photography literally helped us look like we knew what we were doing. It turned out pretty damn good if I do say so myself.... you can click on the picture below and it will take you to the full Look Book!
Swallows Heart Summer 2014 Look Book

We are now planning for a Fall Look Book which I'm pretty stoked about because anyone that knows me knows that I LOVE FALL! (did you notice the all caps lol) I love Fall of all seasons. For many reasons... so here are just a few!

REASONS WHY I LOVE FALL:
  1. Its not too hot & not too cold
  2. its soo pretty outside
  3. boots
  4. layers (I love layering clothing)
  5. scarfs
  6. dark lipstick (yes you read that right dark lipstick is a must in the fall and well its been something I have loved to rock since I was like 10 years old!)
  7. tan no more ( in high school i used to be obsessed with tanning but the older I have gotten I have learned to appreciate pale skin and to also love it! if it means no wrinkles then I am down(
  8. Fall candles (i am a very aromatic person and i love smelling candles & scents!)
  9. watching the awesome movie specials on Fox Family
  10. Lastly but certainly not least COLLEGE FOOTBALL! (I am obsessed with college football and have been for years!!)
Anyways in June I decided to make a decision for myself. I needed to do something to make sure I led a healthier life for my family and I took it upon myself to join in the 21 Day Fix Challenge by Beach Body. My friend Erin had talked to me about it for quite sometime & i finally decided that it was time for me to do something about my body and health. My challenge consisted of portioned eating & working out. I started my challenge on July 7th and my last day was July 27th.

So let me be honest in my expectations from this challenge before I tell you how the rest of my journey on the challenge went. Before I started the challenge I didn't want to loose weight. I weigh on average 125. So to me its never been about the numbers on the scale. I am 5 foot so to me I felt like my weight was not really the issue. My main concentration was to work on my core. I had two prior cessarian so after being cut in half twice my abdominal muscles have never really gone back to what they were. Which I am very accepting of. I know that pregnancy will change things and they may not ever be the same but I needed to do something about it because I was not happy with it. I use to wear bathing suits and hated how the center of my belly jiggled and my legs too. I used to have a muscular body and I knew that if I could get my mind at a place where I wouldn't give up then I could do it! I didn't want to loose anything but gain muscle more then anything. So then comes challenge day and i start eating my meals the way I'm supposed to. The challenge packet said I'm supposed to eat 6 times a day and I will admit that I would get like 5 meals. I still struggle to get all 6 but as long as I'm eating healthy than I will continue to work towards my goal. By that first weekend I had put my bathing suit on again and already I could feel that my body was not jiggling like it used to. We took pictures every sunday to do our comparison.

Day before I started my challenge
Day 7
Day 14
Day 21

As you can see the progress is there.  I am still not where I want to be but I am getting there. I am on my 2nd round of 21 Day Fix and I have added Piyo to my work outs. I can definitely tell you that I am overall happier with everything. It takes time to get the results you want but I am more then willing to put in the hard work to get to my goal. I am loving that working out (after I have finished the work out of course!) and the clean eating as well. I think people really do get the wrong misconception about eating healthy. Everyone thinks that your eating just a few small meals and that its not tasty and in reality its delicious you jut gotta know what spices you can add and how to just make everything your own. Anyways I will continue to update y'all with my progress and your more then welcome to go check my profile out on the beach body site.

Q&A fun!

Thought a really fun way for readers to get to know me would be to just plainly do a Q&A.. so here it is!

1. How tall are you? well all my life I thought I was 5’2 and turns out I am only 5 foot… so yes a fabulous 5 feet tall! 2. How old are you? I am 27 years old!
3. When's your birthday? My birthday is December 13th
4. Zodiac sign? I am a sagittarius
5. Favorite food? I just plainly love food i don’t necessarily have a favorite. But I guess I can say I love pastas, shrimp, chicken. I am from the south & right now I am dreaming of some baked mac & cheese and fried chicken a roll & sweet tea from Minnies Uptown Restaurant in Columbus GA. AMAZE-BALLS!!!
6. Ever been in love? I am right now & married to him too!
7. Ever had a terrible breakup? i don’t believe I have ever had a terrible break up. I have had a break up in the past and it was with my husband when we first started dating years & years ago but it wasn’t terrible really.
8. Are you still friends with any of your exes? I married my ex… lol
9. Any tattoos? yes I do! i have a total of 6 tattoos. My forearm, wrist, feets, & my side.
10. Any piercings? i have my ears pierced and belly button that i have had for years now… lol
11. Favorite show? as of right now i have a few i can’t just narrow it down to one but my top is of course Game of Thrones, Once Upon a Time, The Originals, & Reign
12. Favorite movie? my favorite movie… hmmmmm. This is truly a hard one because I am a big movie lover. I love too many movies but if i have to name a few that come to mind right now. I guess Divergent was pretty bad ass (also an amazing book series) & The Fault In Our Stars, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Superbad & Catching Fire. I have too many to name honestly. I can't just pick one...
13. Besides your favorite movie, what movies could you watch over and over and still love? uhhhhhh… First off any Harry Potter film & I could watch Silver Linings Playbook over & over again. Also Hocus Pocus & Nightmare Before Christmas. Sweet Home Alabama (DUH!) Mean Girls (sorry! LOL!)
14. Favorite actor? well lets see… my favorite actress which i think a lot of my friends already know is Jennifer Lawrence. She is sooo damn talented and from when I first saw her in Poker House i just was just in awe of how amazing she was and such a young age. A favorite actor of mine would have to be Peter Dinklage and I selfishly say that because he portrays Tyrion in Game of Thrones and his portrayal deserves an award. I have never loved a character so much from the first moment I was introduced to them in the first season and he did that. He made me love Tyrion from the beginning and i still do.
15. Favorite talk show host? Ellen DUH! lol
16. Favorite bands? Mumford & sons, Imagine Dragons, Bastille, Kings of Leon, Young The Giant, The Neighborhood, American Authors, Passion Pit, AFI, its honestly too many!

18. What is your song of the week? “What you wanted” by One Republic
19. First concert? Oh goodness kind of embarassing but my first concert was a B2K concert years ago and that was my last one too… haven’t been to another but i want to sooo bad!!! 20. Who would you like to see in concert? Mumford & sons & Imagine Dragons & Ellie Goulding
21. Quality you look for in a partner? Funny
22. Where do you go when you’re sad? ummm no where in particular. I guess I turn to my books.
23. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? it all depends on where I’m going. If I’m just taking my daughter to school then just 5 minutes but if i actually got somewhere to run errands and i want to look a bit more put together then maybe 30 minutes.
24. Ever been in a physical fight? uhhhhhh. yes! lol
25. Turn on? pretty teeth lol
26. Turn off? stench… if you stink i just can’t!
27. Last book you read? The last book I thoroughly enjoyed & fully read was The Mortal Instruments City of Heavenly Fire.
28. The book you’re currently reading? ok so this is embarrassing. I have a total of 3 books that I’m currently reading which are the 6th book in the Vampire Academy series Last Sacrifice. An Abundance of Katherines by John Green & and Forbidden.
29. Last person you talked to? hmmm… my BFF Mary. and it was about books! lol

Disappearing Act

OH HELLO BLOG-OSPHERE!!!

So I should be ashamed of myself. Its been 3 or 4 weeks since I last posted a blog and well I am totally ashamed. (insert virtual slap in the face)

So the happenings of the last few weeks have been insanely hectic. Last I posted my parents were coming into town so as you can guess I was spending time with them and yes thats partially why I did not post a blog & why I haven't even done a youtube video. Also within those weeks both my husband & son had surgery.

Its been a great few weeks having family here but at the same time it was hard because I knew they had to go back and we still miss the whole rest of the family as well. We have a very close nit and loving family. We have so much fun together. I know its very cliche because everyone says it but I really do mean it. We went from having access to all of our family this time last year and seeing everyone everyday to not having any of them close by anymore. But hey its the Army life right?!

My daughter Angelina had her Kindergarten graduation & we were able to take my parents hiking and to Chena Hot Springs & around our little town here. They really enjoyed it and thought it was beautiful. Which it is... If your ever able to visit Alaska do it in the summer its absolutely gorgeous! Here are a few pictures of our awesome happenings...
Here is my daughter at her graduation!

Took a hike and got some awesome shots!

Got to go to Chena & look at the Ice Museum

Santa Clause House in North Pole

Also this past weekend I ran The Color Run 5K. It was a whole lot of fun. Its my 2nd time running a 5K. I do it for the simple fact that its something that I enjoy and I know I don't suck at. lol! Not that it counts now but I did run track in Highschool. I always saw running as just something I am mentally good at. Lets face it its just a mind game anyways. You tell yourself its too long and you end up quitting but if you pace yourself and just tell yourself not much longer keep your breathing steady then you push yourself.

Anyways I am again sorry that I have been away for so long I will have lots of fun post going up specially with summer here and lots of fun things to do here in Alaska! By now I have put up a new video on my youtube channel so go check that out!

Oh before I forget a little book update: I am currently reading the last book in the Vampire Academy series The Last Sacrifice & An Abundance of Katherines. I said I was reading these before and I took a pause from those 2 because I had to re-read City of Lost Souls and then read the highly anticipated 6th & final book in The Mortal Instruments series City of Heavenly Fire. Thinking of doing a video on What have I read 6 month update... hmmm maybe!

Sherley

Busy Bee & Parentals!

So my fellow friends here we meet again at another blog entry and honestly i feel like its a very boring one. So an early warning for you & I will insert apology... NOW " Im sorry!"
This week has been an extremely busy week & as I am typing this for y'all I am literally only an hour and a half away from seeing my parents. Excited is an understatement right now. Next month would have been a year since I seen my parents so this visit is long long overdue!!! I have missed them sooo much!!!!
This the last picture of me with my parents & my brother as well at the airport before I left on my journey to AHHHHHHHH-LASKA!

So besides getting ready for their visit this week it has also been my daughters last week of Gymnastics & they had a show today that they put on for all the parents. She had been practicing this week specially because she wanted to get the moves down packed. She is so cute and boy was it exciting just to see her face after she performed. It wasn't even about me being proud of her because let be honest I was over the moon proud of her but she was proud of herself. Seeing her being proud of herself made me even more proud of her. I want to really instill this self gratification in her. I believe that the happiest people are those who know their self worth and do things for themselves because they know they can. Its not that she should be selfish I just want her to know that she can achieve anything on her own because she knows she can.

Here is my awesome daughter right before she performed & my husband! :)

Also as I am typing this cool doubly dooo my friend Johnny & I are talking about starting a collaboration blog together. It will definitely have a lot more content and honestly I am starting to find my solace in writing again (or typing in this case) but basically putting my thoughts down on some kind of media. I am far from being the best writer but for me its just soothing. So that pretty exciting!!! we will have lots fun stuff and once details are final I will link it here so that y'all can go & check it out!

Lastly another super cool thing that happened this week was that I was a part of a collab photo shoot with my friend Meghan & Sophia. So here is the super rad thing about these 2 ladies. Meghan makes jewelry for her shop on Etsy called Swallows Heart and if your not already a fan of her stuff well then you will be. I am obsessed with her jewelry. Its so unique and I am all about unique & stylish pieces. Then there is Sophia who is a photographer & she is absolutely talented. So here is the thing I am not a model and i don't like to smile. Its not because I'm not happy its because I just have always felt like I have a fake smile. Sophia totally had me actually laughing and it looked natural she took hold of the shoot and no matter how I look in the picture I gotta give her all the modeling credit because she totally told what to do right down to my fingers and she is truly talented! i can't wait to see these pictures. I was the makeup artist for the shoot so its showcasing a few things all in the one. Sophia's editorial side, Meghan's gorgeous jewelry, and my makeup and I couldn't be happier. Cant wait to post all the photos when they are finally done! Cross your fingers for something soon!!!!! here is just a little taste of my Thursday night! :)

I am linking both Meghan's Jewelry shop & Facebook page here & also Sophia's photography page!

Check those out for some awesome work!!!

Anyways guys I have to get back to enjoying my family. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend & also coming up week! Stay Awesome!!!

Sherley

Kylie Jenner Makeup Tutorial

So as I scrolled through my favorite app Instagram a few weeks ago I saw this picture of Kylie Jenner. You may love them or you may hate them. But however you may feel about them this makeup is absolutely to die for! I of course being the crazy person  I am took a screen shot of it (i sound like a stalker... lol i promise I'm not!) and I knew I wanted to re-create it. So here is the picture I basically stalked & gawked over for a few weeks now.
I think this look is just so pretty and I specially love all of the awesome earthy tones used in it. Lets have a moment of silence for that AMAZING lip color. Hello Blog-osphere!

So where do I begin?! I went back & forth trying to figure out what my first blog & just overall what my blog should even be about.

  • First there was: "should it be about makeup?!" No as much as I do love my beauty products & enjoy doing my beauty vlogging on my Youtube channel (you can click on my Logo up top & subscribe by the way. shameless plug?! heck yes!) :)

  • Then there was:"should it be about my second love fashion?!" as much as I am follower & love of all things fashion no I don't think so. I really want something that will make my blog different. There are plenty of fashion blogs out there!

  • There was also:"should it be on my books?!" no I'm not an author however I have an immense love for my books. See we have an understanding. They tell me their stories & I simply take those stories in and cherish them. I am a part of that Harry Potter generation & I have a very special place in my heart for those books & honestly every other book i have read since then. They are truly my escape! But still I didn't want it to be on just my books because again there are plenty of book blogs out there. Don't believe me?! google it! I actually read a good bit of them myself! :)

Then it hit me. My blog will be about all of those things & more. Since my blog will be about me & all things I LOVE then it will be different because indeed we are all different. I'm not sure if this will be a popular blog or if anyone will even read this. But I do hope that for whatever audience I am attracting here that y'all enjoy this!

So since you are here reading this I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Sherley & I am 27 years old. I am a wife to Paul & mother to 2 kids... My daughter Angelina is 5 years old & my son William is 3 years old. My husband is military which makes me an Army Wife which I'm proud of but sometimes don't wish to be defaulted into just that category. I am more then just that. I am originally from this little island that you may have heard of called Puerto Rico. My mother is Puerto Rican & my father is Dominican. Mix those 2 ingredients together and I guess you can say you get ME! My father joined the military when I was young so we moved from that tiny island to the US. We were stationed in Ft. Benning GA and although I have moved around a good bit my husband & I last resided in Alabama. I am hispanic but southern raised. I do have a southern twang which I personally don't notice. I am now in the Northern most state. I am a stay at home mom & as much as I miss working I can say that I have also enjoyed staying home with my kids.

I recently started my own Youtube Beauty channel. I have really enjoyed doing my "how to" videos. I used to free-lance back home but when a lot of my clients found out I was leaving they all asked if I could start a channel. I pondered for a long time because I didn't think I would be good at it. I am still not great but I can feel the progress in my videos. But I want my channel to be about a lot of things besides beauty. Like books & fashion & just life! I want women to feel like putting on makeup is not about hiding but accentuating the features you love most about themselves!
I am actually about to film another quick little tutorial & another video on Top Spring Drugstore Blushes & High end blushes

Anyways enough about that...

This is probably getting extremely LONG so I will end this with just a few books that I am reading this month. I am reading An Abundance of Katherines by the genius author John Green & after I'm finished with that I will be re-reading The Mortal Instruments: City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare.
*just doing a little thing called "johning" while reading An Abundance of Katherines

Yes you heard that right re-reading... the last & final book to that series is coming out on the 27th of this month so why not read the book prior to the finale to refresh my memory specially since its been close to a year since i last read it.

If I don't get to post before May 11th then HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all you mommy's out there! hope you know how amazing & great you are & thank you for all you do!

Welp  y'all that's all I have for today! hope you have an amazing rest of the week.

Xoxo,
Sherley
